In the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, we are dedicated to teaching fourth-year students and interns through theoretical lectures, discussion sessions, and practical (clinical) components. Examinations in Obstetrics and Gynecology are conducted for both theoretical and practical aspects using the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) system, with both first and second rounds of assessments.
Description
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology was established in the 2019-2020 academic year and is considered one of the most critical departments in the clinical phase of medical education. The educational process commenced with the collaboration of faculty members from neighboring universities and visiting professors from Canada, under the supervision of the then-Dean of the College. Obstetrics and Gynecology are taught in the third phase (fourth year) of medical education, followed by a two-month internship in Obstetrics and Gynecology during the fifth year at a teaching hospital.

This objective aligns with the vision and mission of the college by developing new scientific programs that keep pace with ongoing advancements in the various fields of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The goal is to serve the community and environment through both research and practical applications.

This commitment is fulfilled through advanced academic and research programs, in line with the mission of the College of Medicine to deliver teaching, practical training, research, and application, as well as to develop skills in various areas of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The aim is to prepare outstanding students at both undergraduate and graduate levels, equipped with high skills and experience to compete effectively in both domestic and international job markets.
Goals
- Introduction to Core Principles: Introduce students to the fundamental principles and concepts in Obstetrics and Gynecology and its various subfields.
- Clinical Skills Development: Equip students with the necessary clinical skills for diagnosing and treating diseases related to Obstetrics and Gynecology.
- Emergency Care Competence: Ensure students are capable of handling emergencies in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
- Participation in Scientific Events: Engage in scientific seminars and national conferences aimed at improving public health awareness.
- Clinical Training: Provide clinical training through work at Zintan Teaching Hospital, aimed at developing students' clinical skills for diagnosis and treatment, including:
- Taking patient histories for various cases and using this information to reach a diagnosis.
- Training in clinical examination techniques, including vital signs, measurements, and examination of different body systems.
- Discussing cases and training students to derive various diagnoses based on patient history and clinical examination.
- Training students to select appropriate medical tests to achieve a final diagnosis.
- Graduating Qualified Physicians: Produce well-qualified physicians with up-to-date knowledge in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
- Curriculum Development: Continuously update and develop the Obstetrics and Gynecology curriculum to align with recent advancements in the field.
- Faculty Development: Enhance the capabilities and skills of faculty members in improving the educational and research processes within the department.
- Community Health Contribution: Contribute to addressing community health issues related to Obstetrics and Gynecology, including prevention, treatment, and follow-up.
